Lifelong Learning and Innovation: UALL Conference 2019 - Call for papers

News

Our next conference will be held in Telford, a vibrant new town close to the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site, the home of so many changes that marked the first Industrial Revolution and the inspiration to our conference theme Lifelong Learning and Innovation. Within this theme we will be exploring three interconnected threads:

Learning and Place: focusing on where innovation occurs including both the role of learning in responding to innovation and new initiatives linked to place and the way learning is embedded in it, for example, Learning Cities, Towns or Communities, or learning in the changing context of work, leisure, family, travel and tourism

Transformational Change: focusing on how innovation occurs and the link to Lifelong Learning for example emerging technologies, practice based approaches

Innovation in Daily Life and Lifelong Learning: focusing on ensuring that innovation is shared by all  for example innovative inclusive or accessible responses to learning in work, leisure, travel education

The Conference is also underpinned by three principles

  • Inclusion
  • Sustainable futures
  • Lifelong Learning practice in order to respond to a changing world

Submissions are invited for papers, workshops and posters in line with the conference themes

How to submit your proposals:

Paper presentations: please submit a short version of your paper, of 1000 words, including an abstract of between 50 – 100 words. Those accepted to present papers will be invited to submit a full paper for consideration for publication in a special issue of the journal Widening Participation and Lifelong Learning (Open University)

Workshops: please send an abstract of between 250-300 words detailing the aims of your workshop and the ways in which you will engage participants in interaction

NEW to the Conference:

On the Wednesday evening during the informal welcome buffet there will be a showcasing event. The showcase will be in any format that our delegates wish to effectively promote their work. You may wish to use a poster, mini presentation – audio or visual, or just simple conversation. We’re wanting to provide our delegates the opportunity to showcase and promote the work that they are doing for Lifelong Learning. With the hope that strong working relationships will be established during this event and through the whole UALL 2019 Conference. The showcase will also be open to our shortlisted UALL Awards nominees to provide them the chance to highlight the work and projects that UALL thinks deserves celebration.

If you are wanting to showcase your work then please send a proposal detailing what you would showcase, how it relates to one of the conference themes and how best this can be achieved.

Please send all abstracts and proposals to [email protected] by 11th January 2019
