National Workshop on Succeeding with Non-Traditional learners in HE - March 2018

Event
Foresight Centre, University of Liverpool
1 Brownlow St
Liverpool L69 3GL
United Kingdom
Tuesday, 6 March, 2018 - 00:00

Just a reminder that the following workshop on 6th March 2018  is being organised in conjunction with FACE. The cost is £99 and there is a 10% reduction for staff working at universities which are FACE members, so please could you consider attending yourself and circulate the following around your own institutions to relevant staff.

We are still also happy to receive 250 word abstracts for poster presentations at the workshop, to be submitted to [email protected] by Thursday 1st February. We would particularly welcome presentations of interventions which have been appropriately evaluated and would serve as practical models of good practice for improving the success of non-traditional learners.

Many thanks for your support and happy Christmas to you all!

Best wishes

Succeeding with non-traditional learners in HE workshop

Tuesday 6th March 2018, 10am – 4.30pm Foresight Centre, University of Liverpool

Keynote - Professor Liz Thomas, author of ‘What Works’

The University of Liverpool, Queen’s University Belfast, and the Open University, with the support of the Forum for Access and Continuing Education (FACE), invite you to attend this one-day interactive event. Students coming to HE through alternative routes to A levels (via BTEC or Access routes) and those who have been out of education for some time, often need transitional support to enable them to fully engage with the different learning environment of university and to succeed in their studies.

Keynote speaker Professor Liz Thomas will be introducing the ‘What Works?’1 report on student retention and success, and there will be an opportunity to explore how to improve retention and success within your own institution.  The event will therefore contribute to the development of institutional Access Agreements and interventions aimed at improving Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) metrics.

This event is suitable for staff seeking to develop interventions to improve student success and progression including:

  • Academics and practitioners working in widening participation (WP);
  • Staff working in the field of transition, success and progression in HE;
  • Staff responsible for student engagement
  • Professional services staff, responsible for Access Agreements and institutional education strategies.

The cost of the workshop is just £99, which will include lunch and refreshments.  An optional real-ale-trail historical music tour will be available on the evening of Monday 5th March at no cost, for those travelling to Liverpool the evening before the event (booking will be required in advance for this, and places are limited).

You can register for the event via the following link:

If you are a member of staff at one of the organising Institutions, you are entitled to a 10% discount  (University of Liverpool, Queens University Belfast, Open University, of staff working at institutions who are members of FACE). If so, please register at the following link:
