Zimbabwe has always been one of those countries which I had a curious fascination with and a deep interest in visiting. Formerly known as Southern Rhodesia, it was granted its independence from Britain in1980 and since then has been working to develop its economy and to take its place in the modern world.
The next CR&DALL seminar will be held on 7 December at 1030 GMT in hybrid form at the University of Glasgow’s Advanced Research Centre, Room 5125 and online.
It is being led by Professor Robbie Guevara, President of the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE), and is a reflection on UNESCO’s CONFINTEA VII conference in Morocco. We are very fortunate to get this opportunity to hear from Robbie, who is a very engaging speaker, bringing huge expertise to bear on the issues to be discussed.
This report presents research that provides an understanding of the current impact of the low levels of investment in training in the UK and, in addition, tries to quantify how many people’s potential contribution to society is being squandered as a result of not having access to regular skills development. And the inevitable impact of that on social mobility.
The report by Yasmin White, Tom Bradley, Beccy Packer & Emily Jones demonstrates a stark disconnect between increasing employer demand for green skills and young people’s lack of knowledge. A lack of awareness of green jobs and what qualifications support progression to these roles is thwarting young people’s aspirations for careers that can combat climate change and drive clean growth.

Welcome to our first issue of Quest for 2022 featuring stories about life-changing adult education programs. Prison education opens doors, bilingual course engineers success, tips for maths anxiety, ACE news and more.
On 29 March 2022 CR&DALL arranged an internal seminar concerning CONFINTEA and GRALE at the University of Glasgow led by Professor Heribert Hinzen and Professor Ellen Boeren. We are now making the presentations and recording available to a wider audience since we think it provides excellent background material of wide interest on policy-making processes in adult education.
Welcoming VET experts from all over Europe, policy-makers, social partners, researchers and VET providers, Cedefop Executive Director Jürgen Siebel pointed out that ‘entrepreneurship competence creates value for others, innovation, inclusion and sustainable development, a must-have key competence for all. In VET this refers to learners, teachers, trainers, school managers and others.’
Under the motto "vhs 2030: Together in Diversity. Sustainable. Connected", the 15th Adult Education Conference (Volkshochschultag) will address the three major issues of the future that pose new challenges for us politically and socially, and thus also for adult education. For almost two days, more than 800 colleagues from our Adult Education Centres (vhs), international guests, representatives from politics, business and academia, as well as cooperation partners from adult education and other areas of civil society to exchange experiences, will meet in Leipzig to discuss and develop new ideas for the practice of Adult Education.
