Work-based and work-related learning in higher education for adult learners is seen as crucial to address the predicted labour market skills gap identified in such communiques as: New Skills for New Jobs Anticipating and matching labour market and skills needs; and, An Agenda for new skills and jobs: A European contribution towards full employment as part of the Europe 2020 strategy.
This is the latest edition of the L&W Newsletter, distributed directly to more than 1400 experts in and beyond Europe. As always, it focuses on transnational research activities in the field of human resource development (HRD) and vocational education and training (VET), centred on major categories: conferences, networks, programmes, projects and publications.
You are all invited to a half-day seminar to introduce aspects of intergenerational learning, tutoring and research on February 24 from 12:30-16:00 at the Urban Big Data Centre, 7 Lilybank Gardens, Glasgow G12 8RZ.

We are a group of academics and educational researchers who support the broad policy agenda presented in the NUT‘s Stand Up for Education campaign. We see the Stand up for Education initiative as a welcome attempt to present a much more positive and optimistic vision of education than that currently on offer (see our statement of support and list of signatories).
The final quarter of 2013 saw the fastest increase in UK technology sector business for over four years, and 44% of UK technology firms were planning to hire more staff in 2014. Despite this, the computer science graduates who are fundamental to this growth show the highest level of unemployment of all students six months after leaving university. The reasons for this are complex, but time and again research and employers point to undergraduate work placements as an effective method for improving employment outcomes in computing. And yet the current supply of placements outstrips demand.
The conference is organized by the expert group on program planning and analyses in Germany and takes place prior to the annual conference of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Erziehungswisseschaft – Sektion Erwachsenenbildung (Division “Adult Education”).
