Alan Britton has been awarded a major new EU Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR) Fund grant. The research project is entitled ‘Walk the Global Walk’, which is a 3 year project, led jointly by Oxfam in Italy, and the Region of Tuscany.
The project spans 8 Countries, and 20 Partner organisations, cities and regions. From an overall grant of €3,000,000 the University of Glasgow share is around €270,000. Alan is the Principal Investigator, supported by Patricia Wallace as Research Administrator.
The Scottish branch of the project involves a partnership with Glasgow City Council, to support teachers and pupils in developing their awareness of Sustainable Development Goals 11, 13, 16; and of the global interdependencies that exist between the European Union and developing countries. There is a strong focus on young people’s capacity for informed citizenship and transformational change at the local and global levels through a range of actions, including an annual walk and rally on the streets of Glasgow, peer education, and international summer schools.
