ALE and LLL in Education for Sustainable Development

The World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development in Berlin is just over. It was a great event, all online, and it is now well documented on the respective conference website.  Looking back I still recall the World Conference in 2009 in Bonn and its Call for Action with a number of recommendations for the policy and practice level. It would be interesting to analyse what has been implemented and achieved.

This time again colleagues from the ALE and LLL community got involved. Here are two examples:

  • Raul Vades-Cotera from UIL moderated a session that presented and discussed experiences from sub-sectors and different areas of LLL around the globe. Robbie Guevara, President of ICAE, presented community-based initiatives and community learning centers in their efforts to integrate ESD. [Please see the presentation featured below and attached.]
  • DVV International developed a policy paper on the Role of ALE in ESD. It is based on decades of involvement in global learning activities in German community learning centers as well as the many projects in cooperation with partners on environmental or citizenship education. The paper is attached, and the contact is Christoph Jost, Director of DVV International.

CONFINTEA VII is approaching fast. Regional Conferences and Sub-regional Consultations are held in all parts of the world in 2021. The global conference is planned for 2022  in Morocco. It will be important to integrate ESD deeper into the CONFINTEA process and outcome document later. For more information, please see https://uil.unesco.org/events.
