PASCAL Learning Cities Networks gets off the ground again with a conference on ‘Learning from Crises'

The 2022 PASCAL Conference has taken place on the theme of Learning & Crisis: Future Proofing City Responses. The conference was organised by the University of Tampere , Finland. The Faculty of Management and Business Studies played host to around 80 participants from countries with around 30 participants joining online.

The Mayor of Tampere, Anna -Kalsa Ikonen and Matti Sommarberg Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management welcomed everyone to the conference. Professor Josef Konvitz replied on behalf of PASCAL, reminding us of the importance of getting back to serious discussions.

The first day saw a series of keynotes and  a symposium made up of the PASCAL Learning City Network participants. There was 26 papers and workshops delivered over a 3-day period. Countries represented included Australia, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, France, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Ukraine, the USA and the UK. Presentations for future conferences were made by Dr Eugenia Chang, Datong Community College, Taiwan and Professor Mario Delos Reyes from the City of Manilla, Philippines who also welcomed PASCAL members there in 2023. 

In his closing remarks Professor Josef Konvitz paid tribute to all the staff of the University of Tampere for the excellent way they had managed the conference. He indicated that the PASCAL Board looked forward to future conferences and invited all our members to forward suggestions to him for themes for such events.
