We are pleased to announce the appointment, within the School of Education at the University of Glasgow of Professor Allison Littlejohn. Allison will also be taking on the position of Dean of Learning and Teaching at the College of Social Sciences.

Allison, who joins the University of Glasgow on 1 April, is a learning scientist, specialising in professional and digital learning. Her work has made contributions to the understanding of how people learn for work and how technology supports learning. She is currently Academic Director for Digital Innovation at The Open University, providing strategic leadership in learning and teaching across the university. Allison is also Chair of Learning Technology and Research Programme Director for Professional and Digital Learning within the Institute for Learning Technology at the Open University. Prior to this role, she previously held research Chairs at the University of Dundee and at Glasgow Caledonian University, where she also served as Senior Researcher for Knowledge Innovation & Development for Royal Dutch Shell.

Allison has been Principal Investigator or Senior Scientist on a range of research projects across the Energy, Finance, Education, Health and International Development sectors. Her current research focuses on the role of professional and digital learning in solving global challenges: reducing antimicrobial resistance in the heath sector, improving learning from incidents in the energy sector and supporting learning in uncertainty in the finance sector.

Allison asked me to say that she is thrilled to be joining colleagues in the College of Social Sciences and School of Education and looks forward to working with us.
