Nematollah Azizi

On Thursday, 19th October 2023, Swansea University hosted a Leverhulme Lecture titled “Pedagogical Capabilities in Islam to Create, Maintain and Develop Justice-oriented Learning Cities”. The lecture was presented by Nematollah Azizi, a Leverhulme Professor at the University of Glasgow and a faculty member at the University of Kurdistan in Iran. This visit was organized by Swansea University, along the International PASCAL Observatory collaboration, where Swansea Learning City and Swansea University are active members and were happy to host Professor Azizi as their guest from their partner University of Glasgow.  The lecture by Professor Azizi aimed to explore the role of Islamic pedagogical capabilities in creating and maintaining justice-oriented learning cities.

Tudásmenedzsment (Knowledge Management) is a peer-reviewed journal of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Pécs, Hungary. Tudásmenedzsment is published twice a year in Hungarian language. The journal publishes an English-German language special issue once a year.

UNESCO Chair Global Adult Education University of Malta Seminar held on Friday 3 November, 2023

The first ever Seminar in Global Adult Education by the UNESCO Chair in Global Adult Education of the Department of Arts, Open Communities and Adult Education was successfully held on Thursday 2 and Friday 3 November, 2023.  There were presentations from Canada, Italy, Kenya, Palestine and Spain/Catalonia.

Nurture thru Nature (NtN) in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA

The next CR&DALL seminar in collaboration with the Robert Owen Centre for Educational Change is being presented by Professor Radha Jagannathan, Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, Rutgers University, and Director of the PASCAL for the Americas. It is being held in Room 347, St Andrews Building, 11 Eldon St, Glasgow G3 6NH from 1300 to 1430 on Friday 27 October.  Her talk will focus on education in impoverished, inner-city schools and how after-school programs can enrich and enhance student performance.

ASEM LLL Hub event, 15 - 17 November 2023 |  Work and Learning in Changing Social Landscapes

Lastly in our updates from the ASEM LLL Hub, we are delighted to announce the upcoming network development conference of The Research Network on Workplace Learning (RN2), entitled, Work and Learning in Changing Social Landscapes. This event will be held at the University of Innsbruck from 15 to 17 November 2023.

The Chair of the Hub, Seamus O'Tuama, will be the guest lecturer at Chulalongkorn University to unravel the Five Concepts of Lifelong Learning Capital, providing profound insights into the evolving landscape of education.

Also at the same location as the previous event -  ASEM LLL Hub event on 26 October 2023, Five Concepts of Lifelong Learning Capital - a hybrid seminar/webinar: Lifelong Learning: The role of Higher Education Institutions.

Former Dean of the Faculty of Education and Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the university, Professor J.E. (Teddy) Thomas, passed away aged 89 on Tuesday 11 July 2023. A major figure in adult education nationally and internationally, he served as Reader and later Robert Peers Professor of Adult Education at the University of Nottingham, as well as Deputy Head and Head of the Department of Adult Education.

Symposium and book launch of Access, Lifelong Learning and Education for All

A half-day symposium to launch the book, Access, Lifelong Learning and Education for All, in commemoration of the late Professor Jim Gallacher was held on Friday 6 October 2023 at Glasgow Caledonian University. The event was opened by Professor Andrea Nelson (Pro Vice-Chancellor, Glasgow Caledonian University).

Livestock, risks and wellbeing pastoralists and agro-pastoralists in Africa

There will be an in-person and online webinar event about about research in different agro-pastoralist and pastoralist communities in Africa. The in-person activity will from 1100-1500 on 4 November 2023 in the Clarice Pears Building School of Health & Wellbeing, University Of, 90 Byres Rd, Glasgow G12 8TB. The webinar "Livestock, risks and wellbeing in pastoralists and agro-pastoralists in sub-Saharan Africa" will be online between 3-4pm. 

 Fostering sustainable and green communities through lifelong learning for all

This online event is part of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities Lifelong Learning Festival from 30 October to 3 November 2023 being held in Shanghai, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Global Network of Learning Cities. Amongst those attending the festival in person will be CR&DALL Associate Member, Judith James. From CR&DALL, we congratulate the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning on its acheivements in the learning city field over the last 10 years.
