The Art of Transdisciplinary Research Communications: Sustainable Futures in Writing

A team led Dr Zoe Strachan, School of Critical Studies, University of Glasgow, and which includes Dr Mia Perry, core CR&DALL member, and Professor George Olusola Ajibade from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria are engaged in a project funded with £20,000 from the British Academy. This funding is part of the UK Global Challenges Research Programme and involves running a workshop for early career researchers in Africa. Despite inclusion of social science and arts practitioners and scholars in international funding schemes, teams face challenges in writing academic papers that merge input from all disciplines involved. This workshop will enable early-career researchers in the arts & humanities and social sciences from five African countries to develop increased confidence in writing and submitting work, move into lead authorship positions within their own international cross-sector teams, and form new collaborative partnerships through which to access funding for interdisciplinary research. The workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to engage with more expansive and experimental forms of critical writing, which are increasingly embraced by international journals (particularly those with an interdisciplinary focus). This will aid the dissemination of key research findings and methodologies, and lead to an increased impact profile for the vital role of the social sciences and humanities in sustainability research in low and middle income countries.
