Families are facing new challenges in our increasingly complex society. In order to meet the increasing complexity and importance of family science, social and cultural sciences in the German-speaking world discussed the establishment of an independent discipline of family sciences and the establishment of appropriate study programmess. A major step in this direction began in April 2013 as the first interdisciplinary Masters course of study of its kind in the German-speaking world was developed by the applied family sciences at HAW Hamburg.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures are the first nations people of this country and the oldest continuing culture in the world. Their knowledge goes back tens of thousands of years. They have complex and diverse cultures, each with their own unique histories, beliefs and values. As educators, an important part of offering culturally responsive learning opportunities is to better understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, issues and perspectives.
We are pleased to welcome Professor John Field Visiting Professor in Lifelong Learning, who will be delivering his professorial inaugural lecture. The idea of the learning region has become an important part of the debate over education and its contribution to competitiveness and inclusion.
