Abstract
This study presents empirical evidence of a link between undergraduate study abroad and post-college civic engagement behaviour in a national sample of U.S. college students. Using the ELS: 2002 longitudinal dataset from age 16 (10th grade) to age 26, this study employs inverse propensity to treatment weighting to demonstrate the link between study abroad and post-college volunteerism. In addition, the study shows a conditional effect between study abroad and voting behaviour based on first-generation college student status. This presentation considers implications for international and civic educators and scholars interested in the future of national longitudinal studies.
