At the beginning of January 2024, we are pleased to inform you that Dr Dely Lazarte Elliot – a core CR&DALL member from the University of Glasgow – is now part of the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS). Funded jointly by the Economic and Social Research Council and the Scottish Funding Council, SGSSS is ‘the UK’s largest facilitator of funding, training and support for doctoral students in social science’.
Serving as the new Associate Director for Student Engagement and EDI, Dely forms part of the SGSSS Directorate whose remit is to oversee ‘successful running and strategic development of the SGSSS’. Dely very much looks forward to working and supporting many doctoral scholars across Scotland through SGSSS’s numerous activities, including a programme of training and cohort development courses, seminars, and workshops, annual summer school and many others, with a view to offering an excellent research environment, developing research leaders and facilitating world-class PhD research.
Established in 2011, SGSSS brings together the expertise of 16 universities across Scotland to provide a world-class research environment for social science PhD researchers. SGSSS is led by the Director, supported by the Deputy Director (Training) and Deputy Director (Studentships and Partnerships), alongside a team of seven Associate Directors and a team of Professional Services staff.
In 2016, the SGSSS Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) was established. Following successful recommissioning (i.e. DTP 2) in 2023, this led to the renewal of DTP funding from the ESRC, with the first group of doctoral scholars starting in October 2024.
