Literacy as Social Practice (10th September) and BALID events this Autumn

News

I'm excited to be writing to you about literacy events in London and Brighton (UK) this Autumn:

10th September 2018 10.30am-3.30pm: 'Literacy as Social Practice'  This seminar is being organised by the Centre for Teaching and Learning Research at the University of Sussex, in collaboration with BALID (the British Association for Literacy in Development). It will be both a celebration of International Literacy Day and the seminal work of Professor Brian Street. We will be looking at the impact of Brian’s work on New Literacy Studies and its continuing importance to literacy education today. In order to book your place, please register as soon as possible at http://www.sussex.ac.uk/education/ctlr/activity/literacy

18th October: BALID’s 31st Informal Literacy Discussion  This will be led by Dr Katy Newell-Jones, who has recently been working in Somaliland. The likely time and venue are 5-7pm at Feed the Minds, The Foundry, 17 Oval Way, London SE11 5RR.

22nd November 2018: our BALID AGM  Our AGM-with-a-difference will take the form of an evening meal in London, with lots of sharing of experiences and insights. Not your normal boring AGM! More details will soon be available on our website and our Facebook page.

Story-telling and literacy  To add to the mix, we are hoping soon to be holding our 32nd BALID  Informal Literacy Discussion on the relationship between story-telling and literacy. Watch this space!

Contact  If you have not already done so, we’d be grateful if you would complete the form below and return it to me. This is so that we know we are not flouting the law by making contact with you. Many thanks indeed.

We look forward to welcoming you.

With best wishes,

Mary
