Preparations for the Seventh International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VII, 15 to 17 June 2022, Marrakech, Morocco) are quickly moving forward. In this special newsletter, we explore the conference’s workshop themes and their organizers as well as some of the events happening alongside CONFINTEA VII, such as the youth, private sector and civil society forums, and much more.

We also turn the spotlight on adult learning and education in Germany with an interview with the country’s Federal Minister of Education and Research, who reveals her ministry’s plans for the coming years.

Preparations for the Seventh International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VII, 15 to 17 June 2022, Marrakech, Morocco) are quickly moving forward. In this special newsletter, 
we explore the conference’s workshop themes and their organizers as well as some of the events happening alongside CONFINTEA VII, such as the youth, private sector and civil society forums, and much more.

Conference programme
CONFINTEA promotes participatory engagement through 20 workshops 
CONFINTEA VII participants will be encouraged to collaboratively exchange views on challenges to and solutions for specific themes related to adult learning and education (ALE) by means of 20 workshops being held throughout the conference. Organized by 25 different organizations, the workshops will address ALE policies, gender equality, literacy, learning cities, the future of work and much more.

Launch of the fifth Global Report on Adult Learning and Education
The fifth Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE 5) will be launched during the first CONFINTEA VII plenary session, the ministerial panel, on 15 June. The theme of the report is ‘Citizenship education: Empowering adults for change’.

Pre-conference programme
Youth Forum
On 13 June 2022, a virtual Youth Forum will provide a platform for young people, in the post COVID-19 context, to engage in a dialogue with intergenerational actors on their needs, priorities, and aspirations regarding their overall state of education. It will address three key thematics pertaining to Youth Unemployment, Literacy and Skills DevelopmentGreen Skills for Climate Action; and Embracing Active and Global Citizenship.

Civil Society Forum
On 14 June 2022, a hybrid Civil Society Forum will gather representatives of international civil society organizations from all over the world to review the latest developments in adult learning and education, and discuss challenges and priorities related to civil society across the world. The forum will also elaborate a set of recommendations for CONFINTEA VII and the conference outcome document, the Marrakech Framework for Action.

Private Sector Forum
On 14 June 2022, a Private Sector Forum will gather representatives of the private sector, governments, multilateral organizations, trade unions, youth, NGOs, educators, and learners. It will reflect on contributions and best practices of private actors and their evolving role in the provision of adult learning and education. The session will identify potential pathways to improve private sector engagement and establish a stronger ecosystem in the promotion of lifelong learning and skills. A ‘marketplace session’ will showcase promising solutions and facilitate dialogue on partnerships.
