Information on German Adult Education in English available

Recently CR&DALL informed on a major event in German adult education to take place from 20 - 21 June 2022 in Leipzig, with the title "vhs 2030: Together in Diversity. Sustainable. Connected". The 15th Adult Education Conference (Volkshochschultag) will provide opportunities to look at the adult learning and education agenda just a few days after the UNESCO World Conference, CONFINTEA VII, in Marrakech 15 - 17 June.

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 - Educational Research at the University of Glasgow

CR&DALL is part of the School of Education at the University, and we are very pleased to report the results of the submission that was made by the school to the REF (Research Excellence Framework) 2021, the national assessment of the quality of UK higher education research in all academic disciplines. According to the Times Higher Education subject table for education, Glasgow is ranked 10th equal in the UK and 1st in Scotland, based on Grade Point Average, the measure of the quality of its work. It is 6th in the UK based on research power, a measure of the volume of activity of research multiplied by quality.

How British Community Educators construct professional jurisdiction  - PhD of Ye Xiaohan at ECNU

We are very pleased to report that our former MSc student, Ye Xiaohan, has successfully defended her PhD thesis at the Institute of Vocational and Adult Education, East China Normal University in Shanghai. Her topic concerned how British community educators construct professional jurisdiction.  Congratulations to her.

New MRC-funded project - Tobacco and three Global South countries - Kate Reid

We are pleased to announce that CR&DALL core member, Kate Reid is a co-I in a new Medical Research Council (MRC)-funded feasibility study to test the peer-led 'A Stop Smoking In Schools Trial' intervention (ASSIST) in three culturally different middle income countries.

Higher education institutions (HEIs) are essential actors in the promotion of lifelong learning. To explore how HEIs can be transformed into lifelong learning institutions and act as agents for sustainable development, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) will host two roundtables at the upcoming UNESCO World Higher Education Conference (WHEC2022), which will take place from 18 to 20 May 2022 in Barcelona, Spain.

ASEM Global Lifelong Learning Week 2022

The 'ASEM Global Lifelong Learning Week', is scheduled to take place in-person (with some events also online) from September 26th to September 30th in Cork, Ireland. The focus of this week is on the topic of lifelong learning; however, this is also an opportunity for a large network of academics and partners to meet in person for the first time post-COVID.

University of Glasgow at the CIES 2022 Conference

This year, the Comparative & International Education Society Conference took place in Minneapolis, USA, between 18th and 22nd of April 2022. The theme of the conference was “Illuminating the Power of Idea/lism” that sought to address the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of nativism and fundamentalism. The University of Glasgow was represented by members of two large projects, both of which are part of CR&DALL’s portfolio.

As part of our series aimed at developing a roadmap for the enactment of the Yeonsu Declaration for Learning Cities, adopted at the fifth International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC 5) in October 2021, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and the UNESCO Chair on Global Health and Education invite you to the first webinar of our webinar series entitled ‘Lifelong Learning for health: Enacting the Yeonsu Declaration for Learning Cities’ which will take place on Wednesday, 1 June 2022, and to participate in a unique opportunity to engage in Lifelong Learning for Health (LLLH) policy discussions on an international and multi-sectoral platform.

Much of the discussion pertaining to the development of learning cities has focused on the role of city administrations themselves rather than on national policies in lifelong learning (see for example Osborne and Hernandez 2021 and Osborne, Nestervova and Bhandari 2021).

Professor Dénes Koltai

The former Dean and Vice-Rector of the University of Pécs in Hungary died much too early in his 75th year after a distinguished academic career and beyond. His early interest was community development in rural and urban areas and he enjoyed teaching and research for a small department in the University. He then realized that with the system change around the 1990s the professional training of those working in cultural houses, in the emerging civil society sector, folk high schools and related areas would be in need of new knowledge and skills, attitudes and values.
