FACE 2017 Call for Papers

The Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland are delighted to host the 24th FACE Annual Conference in Glasgow, 28-30 June 2017: Concepts of Value and Worth: National and International Perspectives on Widening Access and Participation.

Established in 1993, FACE is a UK-wide network for those involved and concerned with access, continuing education and lifelong learning. As a multi-sector network, FACE and its members are at the forefront of the challenges involved in providing lifelong learning opportunities. The annual conference is an opportunity for national and international practitioners, researchers and policy makers to come together to discuss the latest issues.

Proposals are now invited for papers, symposia, posters and workshops related to widening access and participation, continuing and lifelong education.

The conference is framed around the themes of Reaching out, Reaching in, Reaching over and Reaching up. We welcome proposals around these themes. Subjects might include, but are not limited to:

Reaching Out

  • Community engagement
  • Early years activities
  • Support for migrants, asylum seekers and refugees

Reaching In

  • Innovative access routes
  • Cross sector working including school, college and university partnerships
  • The learner journey
  • Adapting learning and teaching to value access and diversity

Reaching Over

  • Inclusion and diversity
  • Opportunities afforded by technology
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to access
  • International opportunities for access learners

Reaching Up

  • Influencing the decision-makers
  • Regional approaches to access and lifelong learning
  • Partnerships with business and the third sector

Proposals should take the form of an abstract, submitted in word document format, to  [email protected] by Friday 17 February 2017. All abstracts should include the full name and institutional affiliation of all authors; title; whether the submission is for a paper, symposium, poster or workshop; conference theme.

  1. Papers – an abstract of 500 words outlining the contents of the paper. Successful papers will be grouped into sessions, with speakers allocated between 20 – 30 minutes depending upon the number of papers within a session.
  1. Workshops – an abstract of 500 words outlining the contents of the  workshop, activities and participant engagement. Workshops will be allocated one hour.
  1. Posters – an abstract of 200 words outlining the contents of the poster. Posters will be displayed throughout the conference.
  1. Symposia – Overview of 500 words and a 200 word abstract for each paper. Symposia will be allocated one and a half hours.
