David Atchoarena IN FOCUS: UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development Lifelong learning is key to solving global challenges and is therefore integral to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). In many parts of the world, however, ESD is still predominantly taught in formal education and schooling and not in the wider community. To address this, UIL hosted a virtual session on 19 May 2021, ‘ESD in lifelong learning’, as part of the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development. Learn more ► Literacy and basic skills Case study: Greek Language School educates immigrants, refugees, the repatriated, and other foreigners The Greek Language School of the Municipality of Neapolis-Sykeon was established in 2009 in an effort to promote literacy development, personal and social empowerment, and lifelong learning among immigrant communities. Since then, it has provided a Modern Greek language curriculum for adult immigrants.
