Who trains in small and medium-sized enterprises (CEDEFOP)

News

We would like to draw your attention to a recent Cedefop publication that looks at those who train in small and medium-sized (SME) companies in eight EU countries.

Who trains in small and medium-sized enterprises: characteristics, needs and ways of support

There is no unified approach across EU member states of defining trainers in companies but the function of facilitating learning of others exists in all.

These people are very important and supporting them is likely to bring high returns in terms of companies’ productivity, competitiveness and innovation.

To provide support, it is crucial to know more about these people.

The study we offer you gives valuable insight into:

  • who trains in SMEs;
  • how many they are;
  • what qualifications and competences ‘trainers’ have;
  • what competences they need and how they update them;
  • what their training-related tasks are;
  • how their employers support them.

You can find a lot of interesting data that we have collected interviewing trainers and employers.

254 companies in eight EU countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Lithuania, Poland and Portugal) in four sectors (automotive, construction, computing services and hotels and restaurants) took part.

We hope you will find this publication useful. We would be glad to answer your questions and queries, should you have any.

Best regards,
