There is now an opportunity to join the International Council of Adult Education (ICAE)’s Academy of LifeLong Learning Advocacy – IALLA.
It is with great pleasure that we report that Professor Budd Hall has been made an Officer of the Order of Canada in recognition of 'his contributions as a pioneer in the field of Community-based research, and for his advancement of knowledge building and research capacity around the world'. This award is administered on behalf of the sovereign, King Charles III, by the Governor-General of Canada and is how the country 'honours people who make extraordinary contributions to the nation'.
We are very pleased to announce that Nematollah Azizi from the University of Kurdistan, Iran, has been appointed as Leverhulme Visiting Professor within the School of Education at the University of Glasgow, hosted within CR&DALL. We are most grateful to the Leverhulme Trust for funding this position from January 2023 for 12 months, and very much look forward to Nematollah's stay with us. He was previously a collaborator in our British Academy, Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF)- funded project, Strengthening Urban Engagement of Universities in Asia and Africa (SUEUAA).
The next CR&DALL seminar will be held on 7 December at 1030 GMT in hybrid form at the University of Glasgow’s Advanced Research Centre, Room 5125 and online.
It is being led by Professor Robbie Guevara, President of the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE), and is a reflection on UNESCO’s CONFINTEA VII conference in Morocco. We are very fortunate to get this opportunity to hear from Robbie, who is a very engaging speaker, bringing huge expertise to bear on the issues to be discussed.
We are very pleased to announce that CR&DALL will be hosting the 17th Higher Education Reform conference from 21-23 June 2023 at the University of Glasgow with the support of the PASCAL Observatory, the Department of Educational Studies at the University of British Columbia and the International Association of Universities.
Emeritus Professor Lalage Bown, OBE died in Shrewsbury hospital on 17 December 2021, aged 94, following a fall at home. An eminent women’s literacy advocate, she dedicated her life’s work to improving education for the disadvantaged, especially women, seeking to bring university opportunities to the widest possible sections of society.
NCRM is delighted to bring you the 2021 Research Methods e-Festival in collaboration with methods@manchester. Held on 25-29 October 2021, the event will be a celebration of research methods with an interdisciplinary social science flavour.
We are proud to announce that the fourth volume of Advances in Global Education and Research, an open-access textbook has been published. The chapters in this book are peer-reviewed as part of the 4th Global Conference on Education and Research (GLOCER).
Congratulations to a team led Dr Zoe Strachan, School of Critical Studies, University of Glasgow, and which includes Dr Mia Perry, core CR&DALL member, and Professor George Olusola Ajibade from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria that has just won £20,000 from the British Academy within the Global Challenges Research Programme to a workshop for early career researchers in Africa.
Dr Muir Houston, Deputy Director of CR&DALL opened the webinar and provided an overview of logistics for the 80+ delegates and panellists. Professor Ellen Boeren, Director of Research in the School of Education introduced the webinar. She explained that in this event that some of the key work with the school that links to its longstanding commitment to Ethics, Religion, and Values in Education would be presented.
